Marcus came back and picked Rose up when
her shift ended. They strolled down the street
together, careful not to touch each other until they
were inside somewhere, safe. Each time she
brushed against him, she felt the heat of his body.
She wanted to drag him into an alley and ravage
him. She giggled.
“What are you giggling about, sweetie?” he
asked.
“None of your business, nosy man.” She
elbowed him, cheeks flushing.
Marcus stopped in front of a Thai restaurant
and looked at the menu. “I’ve wanted to try
this place. What do you think?”
She studied the menu for a few moments.
“Yeah, it looks good.”
“Okay. This way, cupcake,” he said as he
opened the door. They found themselves in a small
entranceway leading to the main door of the
restaurant. Marcus took a quick look around and
then grabbed Rose by the waist. He pulled her
against him hard and planted his lips on hers. After
a minute, they came up for air, panting.
“How are you, my love? I couldn’t wait to
see you again,” he said, his voice getting husky.
“That drove me crazy today, seeing you but
not being able to touch you.” Rose pressed herself
against him.
He squeezed her shoulders. “I know. It was
torture for me as well. I wanted to jump over the
counter and grab you. Always remember that I love
you, even if we can’t tell anyone yet.” He nuzzled
her neck.
“I know,” she said, looking down.
Marcus put one finger on her chin and gently
brought her face up to his. “I love you so much,
Rosie. Never forget that.”
“It’s kind of exciting, having a secret lover.
But at the same time, I want to tell everyone. Does
that make any sense?” Rose brushed a loose strand
of hair off his forehead.
“I know exactly what you mean.” He pulled
her closer, grabbing her ass. “Let’s wait a few
more weeks, and then we will shout it out to the
entire world. We must be patient, just a little while
longer. When you are finally mine forever, I will
be the happiest man alive.” He pulled her tighter.
“Soon, my love,” he whispered in her ear. He
kissed her again. After a minute he pulled away
and said, “Let’s get out of here.”
Rose smiled and nodded.
They went back outside and started walking
toward her place. After a few minutes, she heard
footsteps behind them and snapped her head
around. There was nobody in sight. They turned the
corner and were almost at her house when she
heard more footsteps. Her heart slammed into her
chest. She whipped around and saw a dark figure
slip into the alley behind them. Bart’s warning
bounced around in her brain.
“Marcus, somebody’s following us!”
“What? Are you sure?” He looked around, his
eyes wide.
“Yes, there was a man. As soon as I looked at
him, he ducked into that alley.” She pointed,
her heart pounding.
“Okay, wait here,” Marcus said, giving her
arm a reassuring squeeze.
“What? No way, I’m coming with you.” She
grabbed his arm and they walked toward the
opening.
They peered around the corner and saw a
movement. She froze. She felt Marcus stiffen
beside her. A dark figure moved toward them
suddenly. Rose brought her hands up instinctively
in front of her, adrenaline surging through her
entire body. I don’t want to die.
The man stumbled past them out onto the
street.
